‘The Martian’ author Andy Weir lists ‘Home Alone’ lookalike house

New York Times bestselling author Andy Weir  - best known for writing The Martian, later turned into a blockbuster movie starring Matt Damon - is looking for a buyer for his lovely Chicago-area family home.

And the author's home looks eerily familiar: it's almost an exact replica of the famous Home Alone house, made famous by the 1990 movie starring Macaulay Culkin.

Not only does Andy Weir’s house look strikingly similar to the McCallister home from the iconic holiday movie, it’s also set within a few minutes’ drive from it.

So let’s take a quick look at The Martian author's lovely Chicago-area family home, now listed for $4,750,000.

Built in 2005, Andy Weir’s elegant home was custom-designed by sought-after local builder Charles Page.

Boasting a Neoclassical, all-brick design, Andy Weir’s house bears a striking similarity to the area’s most famous home: the McCallister house from Home Alone.

That's right, the two Georgian-style homes are both located in Winnetka, IL (they’re set within a 6-minute driving distance of each other)

But The Martian author’s house is located in a much more private and quiet area of Winnetka, the upscale community of Indian Hill.

With 8,800 square feet of luxuriously appointed living space, the house comes with 6 bedrooms, 6 full baths, and 2 half baths.

As is to be expected, the novelist’s home features a showstopping paneled library designed with the avid collector in mind.

The library features gorgeous herringbone flooring and a fireplace for settling in with a favorite bestseller.

The author’s elegant, ideally located home is currently on the market for $4,750,000. Are there any Home Alone fans out there with $5 million to spend?
