Breathtaking views are a given for any billionaire-friendly penthouse, but what feature do only the top luxury penthouses on the market have in common? Double-height ceilings!
In architectural terms, a double-height space is defined as one where the ceiling is roughly twice the height of a typical room, providing homeowners with soaring, open spaces and striking natural light.
And what happens when these soaring spaces are paired with equally tall windows that open up to some of the best views in all of New York City? You get an impossibly stylish space that’s sure to leave a lasting impression on anyone who steps inside.
The design team at Interior Marketing Group has shared with us the three chicest penthouses currently on the market spanning the city from Hudson Yards to Central Park — all staged and furnished by their talented team of designers.
They also shared some of the challenges they encountered along the way and the clever strategies they employed in decorating these million-dollar penthouses with their impressively tall spaces. Get ready to be wowed!
#1 A triple take on double heights in this soaring NoMad penthouse
As the final duplex residence available at Madison House (15 E 30th Street), Penthouse 60A spans over 5,000 square feet amidst iconic Midtown skyscrapers with views that feel like you can reach out and touch the Empire State Building.
Standout design elements
Here, a grand entry foyer leads to a spacious great room with soaring 23-foot double-height ceilings. To emphasize the wow factor of the space, IMG leveraged a trifecta of solutions:
#1 Installing dramatic light fixtures
#2 Hanging a double-height grid of mirrors
#3 Showcasing double-height art
Special touches for the primary bedroom
Upstairs, the primary suite spans the entire east-facing wall of the home and features a lounge area, wet bar, two walk-in closets, and luxurious dual baths. At nearly 42’ long, this primary is among the most expansive in New York.
Moving to the den, the staging turns to the definition of “moody.” Textured dark wallpaper, a reupholstered sectional, and contemporary artwork all work together to create a unique space from the rest of the home.
Priced at $25 million
Beyond its picture-perfect interiors, the Madison House penthouse offers 5,151 square feet of luxurious living space across two floors, 5 bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms, and a 222-square-foot terrace overlooking Midtown’s iconic skyscrapers. It also boasts a luxuriously appointed kitchen with Gaggenau appliances and a honed Calacatta Borghini marble waterfall island and backsplash.
It’s currently on the market for $25,000,000 with Douglas Elliman’s Justin Tuinstra holding the listing.
#2 Fit for royalty: Tribeca’s three-level “Crown Penthouse”
In Tribeca’s newly converted Clock Tower building, a three-story penthouse is up for grabs for a hefty $24,450,000. Far from your ordinary city residence, the penthouse is rightfully touted as “a townhouse in the sky”.
This unique triplex residence spans 6,252 square feet and has expansive outdoor spaces of over 2,000 square feet, plus a ballroom-sized great room and a meticulously designed kitchen, with each (carefully appointed) space oozing elegance and sophistication.
Standout design elements
With a private elevator, media room, and a sprawling primary suite occupying the entire top floor, the penthouse offers a serene retreat in the heart of Tribeca’s historic McKim Mead & White landmark, complemented by modern amenities and timeless elegance.
IMG furnished the property with muted blush tones and natural greens and taupes for an elegant and soft appeal. Complemented by organic shapes and marble accents, this home is a masterclass in the use of luxe, double-height curtains and timeless furnishings, resulting in entertaining perfection.
On the market for $24.45 million
This impossibly stylish three-level penthouse is being offered for sale at $24,450,000, with an all-star Douglas Elliman team in charge of the listing: Elena Sarkissian, Jane Powers, Raphael DeNiro, Christopher Salierno, and Matthew MacKay have all joined forces to help find the right buyer.
#3 A palatial penthouse in Hudson Yards makes its debut
Spanning 5,137 square feet, Penthouse 88C at 15 Hudson Yards beams with natural light and breathtaking views of the Hudson River from every room. The client wanted to create a bright and airy atmosphere while incorporating pops of color and interesting textures, and IMG delivered.
Lofty 26-foot ceilings encapsulate the living space anchored with a captivating double-sided fireplace offset by textural limewash paint. Velour-ensconced sofas and chairs give the great room a cozy feel.
Standout design elements
Still, the biggest design challenge was installing an impressive 58-inch round chandelier with 47 lights, weighing over 180 lbs. It also boasted a 156-inch drop, requiring installation that posed a challenge, needing scaffolding and ceiling reinforcement.
Despite being the final addition to the apartment, the chandelier emerged as a striking centerpiece, enhancing the grandeur of the space.
Listed for $21.95 million
The 4-bedroom, 6.5-bathroom penthouse is being offered for sale through Related Sales and Corcoran Sunshine Sales and Marketing, with full home staging by Interior Marketing Group.
