A distinctly elegant home set on a nearly 1.8-acre parcel overlooking the 18th fairway of the exclusive Pebble Beach Golf Links and the Pacific Ocean has recently set a new record for Monterey County.
Rightfully known as “Masterpiece on 18”, the Pebble Beach house sits on the 18th hole of the famed golf course — known as America’s greatest public golf course — on what’s often been called “the best finishing hole in golf”.
Sold in an off-market deal, the house fetched a whopping $45 million, a price point that makes it the most expensive property ever sold in Monterey County.
Credit for the record-breaking sale goes to Tim Allen of the Tim Allen Properties Team, who low-key marketed the property and secured a buyer for his client — former San Diego Padres owner John Moores, who owned the property for 30 years.

Sold in an off-market deal for $45M
Public records show that the property at 1544 Cypress Drive in Pebble Beach sold on August 26, 2024, for a whopping $45,000,000 — which amounts to $4,286/sqft. Tim Allen of the Tim Allen Properties Team, affiliated with Coldwell Banker Realty in Northern California, represented the sellers in the transaction.
“We are delighted that we could orchestrate a successful discreet marketing and sale of our client’s estate, one of only five prestigious homes located on the 18th hole of this iconic golf course,” Tim Allen says of the record-setting sale.
Setting a new record for Monterey County
The $45 million sale made the property the most expensive house ever sold in Pebble Beach. In fact, it was the highest-priced sale in the entire Monterey County, with Allen crediting the win to the house’s combination of upscale amenities and generous ocean views.
“The allure of unparalleled amenities and spectacular ocean views awaiting the new owners has propelled this closing to an all-time record high for Monterey County home sales,” he said in a statement. “We extend our warmest wishes to the new owners as they enjoy their awe-inspiring modern home in this beautiful location.“
The previous record-holder
The Pebble Beach property dethroned a record set by actor Brad Pitt’s purchase of the historic D.L. James Seaward house in nearby Carmel Highlands. In 2022, the Bullet Train actor paid $40 million for the century-old home on a bluff, which he’d reportedly been in love with since the 1990s.
It’s one of only 5 homes on 18
The home sits on the 18th hole of the iconic Pebble Beach Golf Club and is one of only 5 homes built on the course. Dating back to 1919, Pebble Beach is the only course in the country to host back-to-back USGA championships more than once, with 9 future championships scheduled, including the 2027 U.S. Open
Taking it one step further, the 18th is considered the most heroic and perhaps the best finishing hole in golf, according to the Keiser University College of Golf.
Designed by architect Robert Griffin
Completed in 1996, the impressive limestone structure with barrel-arched copper roofs was designed by Texas-based Robert E. Griffin Architects.
Ties to the San Diego Padres
The record-breaking home’s seller is former San Diego Padres owner John Moores, who owned the property for 30 years.
According to Robb Report, Moores purchased the property in 1994, the same year he bought a majority share in the Padres Major League Baseball franchise. He’d later sell the team for $800 million in 2012 but kept the Pebble Beach property, where he razed the existing home and had the Robert E. Griffin Architects-designed house built in 1996.
Inside the elegant & refined home
Inside the Pebble Beach Golf Links house, we find large, supremely elegant living spaces with arched windows that take in the generous ocean views. Every room is flooded with natural light and radiates warmth and comfort while boasting a refined, timeless design.
Ample living spaces
Spanning approximately 10,500 square feet of living space, the Pebble Beach house has large living areas, spread throughout its primarily one-floor design. The family room, pictured here, has ample seating and large picture windows with enviable views.
The interiors are both modern and timeless
Reaching a perfect mix of modern and timeless, 1544 Cypress Drive boasts a wood-clad contemporary kitchen outfitted with dual islands and top-notch appliances.

A total of 5 bedrooms
All in all, the house has 5 bedrooms, including a large primary suite above the garage, along with 6 full and 4 half-bathrooms.
A showstopping home office
One room that caught our eye is the stately home office with its wood-paneled cabinets that line the walls on both sides, alongside a stone fireplace. Much like in the rest of the house, a floor-to-ceiling arched window provides picturesque views.
Large stone patios on both sides of the house
Outside, there are large stone patios on both sides of the house, Mansion Global reports. One is on the golf course side, featuring a fireplace and a new bronze trellis, and the other is on the entrance side — covered by an arched glass roof — and has a fireplace and an outdoor kitchen.
It has its own putting green
On the entrance side of the Monterey County home is a putting green and a greenhouse with an arched roof. Completing the outdoor amenities is a pond flanked by bear sculptures.
