A month after news broke that AJ McLean and his wife of 13 years, Rochelle McLean, are officially calling it quits following their year-long separation, the Backstreet Boys band member is letting go of their family home.

The property — a Mediterranean-inspired residence in Westlake Village — has served as the couple’s home in California since 2015, when they shelled out $1,900,000 for the 5-bedroom spread. Prior to their house upgrade, the couple owned a more modestly sized abode in Los Feliz, adjacent to Griffith Park.

Marital status change aside, this isn’t the first time AJ and Rochelle have tried offloading the Westlake Village house.

The property was floated on the market at different price points since 2018, and is now listed for $3,495,000 with Brenda Hayward at Compass & Britt Elizondo at Beverly & Co. And they’ve seen lots of interest in the property so far.

Hayward says that “the response has been intense, seemingly several buyers circling,” and it would seem that the house may have already found its newest owner.

The listing is marked “Active under contract” on the brokerage’s website, which means we’re likely looking at a speedy sale. So let’s take a quick tour of the elegant family home with celebrity pedigree before it gets taken off the market.

The 5,330-square-foot home is part of the affluent Signature Collection gated community and sits on a quiet cul-de-sac.

It has a total of 5 bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms, and all the hallmarks of the stately homes that line this exclusive residential community: a grand front entrance with an impressive foyer, a beautifully appointed chef’s kitchen, a sweeping curved staircase, and high ceilings.

Here’s a breakdown of everything it has to offer:

  • Bathrooms: 5.5
  • Square footage: 5,330
  • Year built: 2001 (recently updated)

“The kitchen offers Wolf appliances and an enormous window that overlooks the backyard which has a pool and well-designed outdoor entertaining area.”

The outdoor area is one of our favorite parts of the house.

Perfect for entertaining guests and friends, the backyard has a covered veranda for alfresco dining, a generously sized pool, and plenty of green space to cool off in during those long, sunny Cali days.

While only about 100 homes were built in the affluent Signature Collection gated community back in the early 2000s, the surrounding area and its many highly desirable communities have long attracted the rich and famous.

In fact, AJ’s house is roughly 10 miles away from another pop superstar.

Britney Spears’ house is in nearby Thousand Oaks, a star-studded area that long attracted wealthy residents. Canadian hockey legend Wayne Gretzky liked it so much, that he famously bought back his former custom-built home after selling it.

While we don’t know whether he’ll be staying in the area, we’re looking forward to seeing AJ’s next digs.

With his distinctive voice, edgy style, and charismatic presence, AJ McLean rose to fame as a member of the Backstreet Boys, one of the most popular and enduring boy bands of the late 1990s and early 2000s.

The Backstreet Boys were a pivotal part of the pop music scene, contributing to the boy band craze that swept the globe during that time. But their reign as ‘boyband supreme’ is far from over.

The five bandmates are still touring (and this humble writer is still kicking herself for missing their concert last fall🤭), and will be celebrating a major milestone in 2024. In April, they’ll be performing a special “30 Years of Backstreet Boys” concert in Cancún, Mexico, joined by other performers like Jason Derulo, Eric Cubeechee, DJ YO-C, and more.
