Jimmy Butler traded up!

Amid trade rumors, the Miami Heat small forward just signed on to rent a luxury mansion in one of Miami Beach’s most exclusive communities, Hibiscus Island, for over $70,000/month.

The move comes on the heels of Butler’s recent house sale. The basketball star recently offloaded his Miami house, a 6-bedroom near South Miami and Coral Gables, banking $8.3 million from the sale.

With no definite news on where he’s headed next, the six-time NBA All-Star is likely playing it safe before investing in a new house.

That’s likely why he decided to rent instead of buy, as the Hibiscus Island abode he recently moved into is also up for grabs — though it comes at a premium fitting for the man-made island, known to command sky-high real estate prices.

Julian Johnston of The Corcoran Group holds the listing. Johnston also repped the landlord in the rental deal, while Greg Mirmelli represented Butler.

If you think the $30 million asking price is quite high, a quick look at its neighbors shows that it’s right on par with the rest of the properties up for grabs on the man-made island.

Hibiscus Island is one of the three small island neighborhoods (with the other two being Palm Island and Star Island) between Miami and Miami Beach, off the McArthur Causeway, known to attract celebrities and high-net-worth individuals in droves thanks to their exclusivity and privacy. Naturally, prices reflect this exclusivity, with the median listing price resting at a pricey $12.8 million.

At the time of writing, there are only about 20 single-family homes publicly listed for sale on Hibiscus Island, with the “cheapest” one being priced at $6.9 million (offering about 2,400 sq. ft. of living space), and the priciest asking $37.5 million (for over 10k square feet).

In neighboring Palm Island, a 14,930-square-foot property set a new record for the Miami Beach island trio with its $40,000,000 sale.

The Miami Heat star’s new Miami Beach residence comes with a stellar waterfront location on Hibiscus Island, with more than 125 feet of water frontage, a private dock, and a boat lift.

The house itself has 5 bedrooms, 5 full baths and 2 half baths, and 6,090 square feet of luxuriously appointed living space, including several living rooms, a sleek modern kitchen, a palatial primary bedroom with towering ceilings, and marble-clad bathrooms.

Most notably, due to its enviable location, Jimmy Butler’s current home opens up to panoramic views of the ocean and the Miami skyline.

Another move on the horizon

Impressive as it may be, the Miami Beach house likely won’t serve as Butler’s home base for long.

The six-time All-Star has hinted that he wants the team to trade him, with ESPN reporting that Jimmy “is open to playing anywhere other than Miami and believes he can make any team a contender”.

“I want to see me getting my joy back playing basketball. Wherever that may be, we’ll find out here pretty soon,” Butler said. “I’m happy here off the court, but I want to be back to somewhat dominant, I want to hoop and I want to help this team win, and right now I’m not doing it.”

We’ll be keeping an eye out to see where the basketball star lands — and what his next home looks like. For now, Butler is also the proud owner of a gorgeous California mansion outside San Diego (with a coffee shop inside) that you can tour in this fun Architectural Digest video.
