A sprawling St. Helena ranch and vineyard that traces its history all the way back to the earliest days of California winemaking is now being brought to market for an eye-watering amount.
Listed for a whopping $100 million, the 2,000-acre Glendale Ranch is one of the largest properties left in Napa Valley and consists of 17 parcels, 4 family homes, 40 acres of planted vineyards, and a private lake, among others.
“Glendale Ranch is a true hidden gem in Napa Valley,” says agent Erin Lail, who holds the listing. “The expansive 2,000-acre sanctuary is a world onto itself, offering a unique blend of seclusion and accessibility that makes it an exceptional retreat for those seeking tranquility and inspiration in wine country.“

A 2,000-acre private valley just minutes from St. Helena’s core
Just minutes away from St. Helena’s Main Street, the Napa Valley ranch consists of:
- 17 parcels, two of which exceed 320 acres for a total of 2,000 acres
- 4 homes, including a two-story, colonial-style main house built in the late 1800s
- a man-made 7-acre lake ideal for swimming, boating, fishing, and vineyard irrigation
- two ponds, several creeks and waterways, and three separate water wells supplying water throughout the property
Owned by the same family for 87 years
Home to some of the region’s most influential families, Glendale Ranch was purchased in 1938 by oil magnate David Fasken, and has remained in the family for nearly 87 years.
Fasken, a Canadian-born lawyer-turned-oil executive, formed Fasken Oil & Ranch — one of America’s largest privately owned oil companies, said to own approximately 300,000 acres of land in Texas. Upon his passing, he left the ranch to Barbara Towne Fasken, whose descendants, Andrew Green and Lindsey Wiseman, are now selling the property.
Anchored by a 6-bedroom main house
The main house at Glendale Ranch is a two-story, colonial-style home built in the 1880s that features 6 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, and 1 half-bath across 3,328 square feet of living space.
Outside, there is a detached two-car garage and workshop.
There are three more homes on the property
There are three other structures on the property, aptly named after the scenery that surrounds them.
That includes a Creekside House built in the early 1900s that features 1,709 square feet of living space, with 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, and an attached two-car garage, as well as the similarly sized Grove House, that also comes with a large workshop and a water well with a 10,000-gallon concrete storage tank.
Including a 1940s kit home that arrived by railroad
One of the most interesting homes on the sprawling 2,000-acre property is the Vineyard View House, a 1940s kit home that arrived by railroad, harking back to a time long gone.
This ranch-style home offers two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and 1,520 square feet with expansive vineyard views.
And 40 acres of vineyards
Adding to the property’s charm — and income-producing potential — are its generous 40 acres of active vineyards that produce an average yield of 2.3 tons per acre.
The vineyard includes over 20 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, four acres of Malbec, and additional plots of Petit Verdot, Petit Sirah, and Merlot.

The crown jewel of Napa Valley
“With its rich history and sublime beauty, it’s arguably the crown jewel of Napa Valley,” listing agent Erin Lail with Coldwell Banker Brokers of the Valley says.
“Glendale Ranch is remarkably diverse, from lush vineyards and serene lakes to historic homes and abundant gardens, providing endless possibilities for recreation and relaxation. This is not just a property; it’s an opportunity to invest in a legacy that can be cherished for generations to come in the heart of Napa Valley.”
With a long history of influential owners
Fittingly, the 2,000-acre private valley has been owned by some of the region’s most influential families.
Previous owners include Howard Overacker Jr., who introduced innovative agricultural practices on the land in the early 1900s, Edwin M. Hall Jr. and Alfred Tubbs, known for establishing Chateau Montelena in the late 19th century, General George V. Rutherford and George Yount of Yountville.
It remains to be seen who will claim ownership next — and who can afford the premium price tag.
