Golden Globe-winning actor Johnny Depp has been making headlines for decades.

After rising to fame in the teen idol television series 21 Jump Street in the late ’80s, Depp went on to become a household name in classic films such as Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, and Donnie Brasco, to name a few.

Not to mention the Pirates of the Caribbean films that catapulted him into full-fledged movie star status. But the handsome hunk that plays Captain Jack Sparrow hasn’t always had a charmed life, and the headlines haven’t always been handsome.

Depp’s divorce from Aquaman star Amber Heard became a viral sensation when both actors alleged abuse in a highly publicized defamation case.

While Heard was found liable in all three matters of defamation, the 2022 livestream trial attracted a frenzy of social media attention, with some saying it was a huge setback for the feminist movement and victims of domestic violence.

Meanwhile, others were pro-Johnny the entire trial, which only resulted in more popularity for the A-list movie star.

All drama aside, we’re diving into Depp’s impressive real estate holdings. Where does the A-lister live now that he has one of the most high-profile court cases in Hollywood behind him? Continue reading about the actor’s impressive properties across the globe.

Johnny Depp’s houses: his LA mansions, village in France, and private island in the Bahamas

The Fantastic Beasts star, who just a few years back was one of the most prolific actors in Hollywood, picked up quite a few impressive properties over the years.

And despite a series of poor investments and some wildly expensive legal proceedings, Depp retains ownership of a few high-profile properties, including two Los Angeles mansions, a private island in the Bahamas, and more.

His most famous home is a sprawling Los Angeles mansion in West Hollywood, which he purchased in 1995 for $2.15 million.

Reminiscent of one of his most beloved character’s abode — Edward Scissorhands’ castle in the 1990 movie, co-starring Winona Ryder — Johnny Depp’s house in Los Angeles is a castle-like structure with turrets and towers.

The posh property offers 8 bedrooms, 10 baths, and 7,000+ square feet of living space. Though reports say the mansion is in dire need of upgrades, as Johnny hasn’t been spending much time here in recent years.

In fact, the actor almost lost his West Hollywood castle in 2023, with news outlets reporting that both his castle-like home and another smaller house he owns on N. Sweetzer Avenue (also in West Hollywood) were facing foreclosure.

Luckily, he managed to retain ownership of the two properties after taking out a $10 million loan that allowed him to cover the outstanding debts. But even though Johnny Depp’s houses were saved from foreclosure, they remain empty.

Where does Johnny Depp live now? In recent years, following the explosive media frenzy of the Depp v. Heard trials, the actor has been living the quiet life on his own private island in the Bahamas, dubbed Little Hall’s Pond Cay.

The actor’s private island in the Bahamas

As the talented actor that he is, Johnny channeled Jack Sparrow on and off the screen — especially when he purchased a private island in the Bahamas.

In 2004, the actor shelled out $3.6 million for a little slice of private heaven, known as Little Hall’s Pond Cay.

According to Page Six, the 45-acre island has 6 beaches and a posh ranch-style property that includes a jaw-dropping 360-degree view of the island.

Joining celebrities such as Eddie Murphy and David Copperfield who also own compounds in the Caribbean, Depp’s private island is located off the coast of Nassau.

He owns an entire village in France

If you thought a private island was impressive, get a load of his village in France.

In 2001, the actor purchased an entire village in the south of France. Le Plan-de-la-Tour is located 17 miles from Saint-Tropez.

The quaint 19th-century village spans 37 acres and offers a main home with 6 guest houses.

The impressive estate offers 15 bedrooms, 14 bathrooms, and more than $10 million worth of renovations, 84 Rooms reports. The luxurious property also includes an outdoor pool, an art studio, and a private restaurant Depp named Café Marcheline.

After having all the houses in the village rebuilt, and the roads repaved, Depp listed the entire village for sale.

Originally listed for $27 million back in 2015, Johnny Depp’s village failed to attract a buyer and was taken off the market, only to relist in 2021 for $63 million, and then again in 2022 for $55 million.

The English estate he *reportedly* purchased

Following the defamation trial, Depp doubled down on his privacy and spent a lot of time in Europe.

This led many publications to report that the Hollywood actor relocated to his estate in England and that he’s embracing the anonymity of the United Kingdom at his Somerset Mansion, near Quantock Hills.

For years, the news has been circulating that the actor purchased a Somerset property in 2013 for $2.5 million and then spent an additional $5 million on renovations. Spanning 850 acres, the 150-year-old estate was said to offer 12 bedrooms and 8 baths.

As it turns out, Depp has never owned a house in Somerset, despite the many media reports saying that he did. The DailyMail.com confirmed that he never bought the house in the village of Kingston St. Mary, although he had looked at another home which was eventually sold and turned into a hotel.

What about those infamous penthouses?

We’d be remiss not to mention the infamous penthouses Depp shared with Amber Heard, where all the drama went down.

During the defamation trial, Depp’s Los Angeles penthouses were mentioned quite a bit. Over the span of their two-year marriage, which lasted from 2015 to 2017, the swanky suites became part of the couple’s dramas (just to jog your memory: defecation in the defamation trial, anyone?).

Located in the Eastern Columbia building in downtown Los Angeles, Johnny purchased five adjacent penthouses between the years of 2007 and 2008, Work and Money reports.

With all 5 suites spanning 11,500 square feet, some of the luxurious amenities included a rooftop pool, connecting doors and several art studios.

Although these posh penthouses were up for debate during their divorce proceedings, Depp sold (and pocketed the profits of) all five suites in 2017 for $10.9 million.
